Many behaviors that are labeled as “odd” or “pathological” or “maladaptive” are really not those things — they make a lot of sense given the situation the individual has had to learn to live with or in. As babies, we take in information and learn and adapt, but as we age and experience trauma, that flow of information gets blocked. I help to dispel the mystery of how we got here — the logical cause and effect — and offer tools for getting unstuck.
My Story
I started riding horses in fourth grade. By the time I was choosing a career path, I had my options down to jockey, standup comedian and counselor (seriously). Having spent over a decade on a thoroughbred breeding and racing farm, I knew the competitive, intense lifestyle of a jockey wasn’t for me. I had no experience doing standup and that felt like too big of a gap to reasonably bridge for a full-time job, so I doubled down on counseling. I wanted to do something that aligned with my values and counseling was a good fit.
In my last semester of grad school, I moved to the Columbus area and was fortunate enough to land an internship with Kevin. He supervised me in 2007, introducing me to DBT and helping to shape the trajectory of my career.
With a diverse background spanning private practice, Community Mental Health, Juvenile Probation, and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), I have refined my expertise over nearly two decades. Specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a modality I deeply value for its effectiveness, I have undergone extensive training and consultation to provide top-tier treatment. Additionally, I integrate EMDR and Somatic modalities, particularly in treating trauma. My approach involves teaching individuals how to integrate information effectively through acquiring new skills, engaging in novel experiences, and exploring concepts from fresh perspectives. My style is light, genuine, witty, authentic, validating, direct and non-judgmental. I really enjoy getting to know and understand individuals from all types of cultures and lifestyles.
