Meet Our Team

Kevin Hamm, LPCC-S

(He/Him/His)

I do my best to be curious as opposed to judgmental.
I like the idea of patient and client relationship being reciprocal. I am treating a person, not a diagnosis. Whatever is happening, I believe there is a reason behind it. So I’m not there to save anyone or fix them — I want to help them connect more fully with self, so they can understand it & it address it.

My Story

Even since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be a therapist. I studied psychology and sociology in undergrad, finished grad school in 1996 and went straight into working in mental health. I was born sensitive and I knew being a therapist would be a fit for me in that I am emotional and relational. This career has helped me to leverage these aspects as strengths, effectively and professionally.

As one of the first therapists in Columbus to become intensively trained in DBT, I have years of experience in treating BPD. I’m particularly interested in cause and effect, detecting dysfunctional patterns and helping clients understand the “why” of those patterns. While I have always worked with clients who have pervasive and complex issues, I also focus on complex trauma — physical, sexual, emotional, neglect and more — and severe dissociation.

Some of my approaches include Dialectical Behavior Therapy, EMDR and ego state therapy. I acknowledge that a client’s journey is both layered and episodic, and they will often need support I can’t offer. I encourage second and third opinions, make referrals to other specialists, and welcome and embrace feedback. I am  an EMDRIA certified therapist and approved EMDR consultant, as well as an  intensively trained DBT therapist.
